The scientists at the Fraunhofer EMFT possess extensive experience in development and production of sensor components and their coating. Additionally, the suitable readout electronics can be selected or developed, depending on the application.
The available optical and electrical sensor components are continuously developed further, in order to suit various sensor applications. Based on market relevancy and customer wishes, complete sensor systems including suitable interfaces for demonstration purposes are designed. The available developments include e.g. systems for pH measurements in liquids, for spectroscopic analysis of gases or for monitoring of environmental parameters such as temperature, air humidity, or concentration of carbondioxide or hydrogen in the ambient air. Development of networked sensors based on microsystem integration is an essential part of the service offering.
A special focus lies on 3D integration, a long-term topic at the Fraunhofer EMFT and of essential importance for combining CMOS-compatible electronics with MEMS-sensors. Above that, sensors with standard interfaces are read out, controlled and interconnected. Within an industry cooperation, a multifunctional sensor platform was developed for this purpose. This allows for addressing any type of sensors via USB or wirelessly over Bluetooth or NFC. The readout can be carried out e.g. using a standard smartphone.
