TNO and Fraunhofer - through its High Performance Center “Secure Intelligent Systems” (LZSiS) - have joined forces for a strategic research collaboration in order to address areas from Industry 5.0, in particular relating to three collaboration tracks:

The first track works on secure data space connections. The goal is to not only rely on trust between certified connectors but to enforce data access policies to further improve the data sovereignty in federated cloud systems like the IDS or Gaia-X.

The second track is leveraging XR technologies to provide remote training and education, as well as to enhance immersion with new modalities and senses beyond audio-visual, such as haptics and olfaction.

The third track is developing wearable sensor systems with the objective to enhance occupational safety and health. The system is based on the established DressMAN platform and integrates innovative sensor developments for measuring and analyzing the environmental quality at the actual workplace as well as the individual physiological well-being.

The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) is an independent research organization. We connect people and knowledge to create innovations that boost the sustainable competitive strength of industry and well-being of society. Now and in the future. Together with our partners, we focus on the societal challenges of a safe, healthy, sustainable and digital society. This is our mission and it is what drives us, the over 3.600 professionals at TNO, in our work every day.

Fraunhofer LZSiS is an initiative of the Fraunhofer Institutes AISEC, EMFT, IBP, IGCV, IKS and IVV from Munich metropolitan region pursued in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich, the Universität der Bundeswehr München and the Munich University of Applied Sciences. The interdisciplinary competences and the versatile know-how of the participating Fraunhofer institutes and their university partners are bundled in the LZSiS and made accessible for companies. Special emphasis is put on the overall safety of intelligent system solutions: Safe and secure from sensor to cloud is the Leitmotiv for the High Performance Center.
